Poplar Corner Graduation week

It has been graduation week at Poplar Corner this week.

16 students (4 each on Mon, Tues, Wed and Thursday) graduated after 10 after school lessons.

I picked them up up from school each week. We had afternoon tea and then went out and caught ponies and horses, saddled up and rode. We also covered theory and the care of horses. Parents picked up at 5.30.

Easter parade

Henry my donkey did a good job at of leading an Easter parade through the streets of Canberra Central Business District this year.

He also had to double up as "Murphy", Simpson's donkey for a talk about the Anzacs.

My 90 year old Mum is visiting Poplar Corner this month and she has been enjoying the Autumn sun, especially when Diamond comes to share in the breakfast.

Henry led hundreds of people through the streets of Canberra yesterday, celebrating Easter Sunday. He then posed as Simpson's donkey Murphy. He was a bit anxious, but behaved very well.

Poplar Corner's 9th Anniversary!!

I am very proud to announce that today is the 9th Anniversary of when I started the Poplar Corner Business. On that day 9 years ago, I attended my first public event at Lanyon Homestead with a pony and a donkey. I think they were Squirrel and Patter. I still have Patter the donkey. Squirrel is the white pony in the attached phot. Unfortunately Squirrel reached the grand old age of 33 last year and peacefully passed away. Patter was my son's donkey and it was actually his idea to run donkey rides, so thanks for the business idea Miles! I could write a book about the last 9 years. Lots of fun, satisfaction and a fair share of drama.

Out and about around Canberra

Have been to lot's of important events around Canberra recently. We provided pony rides at the Black Opal Races and at Government House Open Day. With all rhe recent rains, the racecourse and the gardens at Governbment House were lovely. This weekend we were at the annual Charnwood Community Carnival. We have been going to this event for about 4 years and it is always a huge fun day for the community.

Friday 26 Feb to Sunday 28 Feb was the Royal Canberra Show. We pleased a lot of kids. Six of my ponies, 2 of my donkeys and about 24 different staff worked hard all weekend. There were huge crowds and we gave many delighted children their first ride. Luckily we were working close to "The Animal Wranglers" who put on a really good show 4 times a day with horses, ponies, a mule, a very large bull, pigs and dogs.

Here are some pictures of the Annual Poplar Corner Gymkhana held last Sunday 15 November 2009,

Natasha onDiamon won Champion in the 10 y.o. & under section and Sierra on Porsche won Reserve Champion.

"Old girls", Kirstie, Kayla and Christine returned with their handsome thorougbreds.

Miranda on Porsche won Champion and Aimee who had come all the way from 'Queensland won Reserve Chmpion on Casper.

Here is a picture of Josephine showing off her jumping skills in the last school holidays at Poplar Corner. She was entertaining the Da Silva sisters, who took this great photo. They were spending the day having horse riding lessons and doing farm stuff.
